30 Years Strong: The Legacy and Future of LDJ Manufacturing

Pella, IA – Incorporated in 1995, LDJ Manufacturing, founded by Loren and Jean Van Wyk, is the proud maker of Thunder Creek, fuel and service equipment built for those who feed and build our nation. What began as a small family operation has grown into a nationally recognized brand trusted by farmers, contractors, and fleets across the country.

The journey started in 1993, when a devastating flood pushed the Van Wyk family to diversify their farm operation. Loren and Jean, along with sons Luke, Chad, and Lance, turned to manufacturing, creating a wide range of practical, innovative products, from lightweight window displays for national retailers to custom fabrication projects, corn furnaces, contractor carts, and specialty trailers. This hands-on dedication to solving real customer challenges laid the foundation for what would eventually become the Thunder Creek brand.

In 2009, LDJ built the very first Thunder Creek fuel trailer, introducing a rugged, reliable way to handle fuel safely and efficiently in the field. When new diesel emissions regulations introduced the requirement for Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) in new agricultural and construction equipment, they brought confusion and a need for practical solutions. LDJ recognized the opportunity and stepped in to provide reliable, user-friendly DEF handling equipment, helping customers navigate the changing regulations. The trailers were first designed to serve the agriculture market, but demand soon expanded into construction. What started with a single trailer would grow into a complete product line, backed by a nationwide dealer network.

Today, LDJ Manufacturing continues to expand the Thunder Creek lineup, delivering equipment that saves time, reduces hassle, and empowers industries to do more with every gallon. From fuel trailers to service trucks, every product is designed for safety, efficiency, and reliability in the field, and on the jobsite. Born from resilience and built on innovation, LDJ and Thunder Creek stand for one thing above all: fueling hard work.

In December 2022, LDJ Manufacturing proudly transitioned to an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) company, ensuring that the dedication and expertise of every team member directly contribute to the company’s continued growth and success.

Now, in 2025 LDJ is celebrating its official 30th year of operation, a journey rooted in supporting local communities, which has always been the fabric and heritage of our brand. Through every challenge and every milestone, LDJ Manufacturing is grateful for God’s faithfulness, guiding the business from its principled beginnings to the growing, trusted company it is today.
